Hello! My name is Danielle Woodring. I am a first year graduate student at Oregon State University studying structural geology! This summer I will be creating a geologic map of part of the Columbia River Gorge. This year, I received a grant from the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) to create and publish a geologic map of an area north of the Columbia River Gorge, in southern Washington. NCGMP is a joint effort between the USGS, states, and universities to provide accurate geologic maps to the nation!
I was awarded an EDMAP grant (the education component of NCGMP) because the USGS is actively mapping the Columbia River Corridor, and appreciates help from a new generation of mappers. I plan to catalog my mapping techniques, advances, and discoveries throughout the summer on this website, so please check-in for updates! My next post will involve more information on my actual map area and the science of what we know now, so visit my site in a couple of days!
Here is a bit of information about myself -
Originally from Kansas, I graduated from the University of Kansas in 2015 with a B.Sc. in Geology. After that, I spent 2 years advocating for the earth sciences as a policy associate with the American Geosciences Institute in Washington D.C. During my time in D.C., I realized that I missed school and decided to apply to grad schools to study structural geology! Now I’ve just finished my first year at OSU, and have been gearing up for a summer chock-full of mapping!
